    This short documentary was created for The Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of British Columbia (AMSSA) in collaboration with Indigenous leaders, Elder Glida Morgan, from Tla’amin Nation, Elder Mary Point, a member of the Musqueam Indian Band, and Norm Leech, from the T’it’q’et community of the St’at’imc nation.

    Samuel and Johanna arrived in Canada as Refugee Claimants from Honduras. Once their refugee claim was accepted and they became Permanent Residents, Samual and Yohana started their own painting company: Samyoh Honcan Painting Ltd.     After fleeing Afghanistan, this anonymous refugee claimant found himself in Canada. In order to protect his identity and still bring his story to life, we focused the visuals on the sheer anxiety and angst in his body language. The overall goal was to shed light on the challenges that refugees face when living in Canada as well as highlight the value that refugees and newcomers bring to Canadian society.
